Cinnamon Roll Buttermilk Biscuits

A quick note. These are best served either immediately out of the oven, or a few hours (at most) later at room temperature. They do not store well, so make sure there are enough people around to consume these pretty shortly after baking, otherwise, you might have to eat them all yourself before they become less than perfect…

  5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  1 teaspoon cinnamon
  ¼ cup sugar
  2 cups flour
  1 tablespoon baking powder
  1 teaspoon salt
  ½ teaspoon baking soda
  3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  ¾ cup buttermilk
  Cream Cheese Icing
  3 ounces softened cream cheese
  ½ teaspoons vanilla
  1 tablespoons milk
  1 cup powdered sugar
