  1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  1/2 tsp + pinch kosher salt
  2 pears, halved, cored and sliced into 1/8-inch pieces
  1/2 cup white sugar
  2 large eggs
  1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  1/2 cup + 3 tbsp buttermilk
  1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  1/2 tsp baking soda
  1 tsp baking powder
  1/2 tsp ground cinnnamon
  1/4 tsp ground ginger
